On the 4th of August we will be holding a Committee Meeting at 6pm. This meeting will be held on site at the New Zealand Virtual School future offices location. I would encourage people to read the Agenda and to feel free to attend the meeting if they would like to learn more about how things are developing.
Development of the NZVS has continued during the past weeks with a number of key elements coming together very smoothly. We have begun the process of establishing the diversification that we have always envisaged to provide true work place training in addition to the Trade Academy blended secondary/tertiary learning programmes. I hope to be able to announce the first of those diversified learning programmes in a short while.
Other highlights include the announcement that Alex MacCreadie and I will be presenting on NZVS at U-Learn this year. U-Learn is a very exciting venue to be able to discuss NZVS and we definitely look forward to that opportunity.
Late in Term 2 2010 we completed a large review of documentation and preparedness by the Ministry of Education. That meeting went very smoothly, and Anna Geling of the Ministry of Education has provided very complimentary feedback on our level of documentation. The Ministry met with all Trade Academies at that time, and then prepared reports on them for the Minister of Education. The process, as articulated to us, is that the Minister will now make a decision as to which Trade Academies are prepared enough to open in early 2011, and make a public announcement to that effect in July 2010. The announcement had not been made at the time I wrote this. Consequently we are awaiting confirmation about next year.
At that meeting the Ministry of Education confirmed they would envisage our enrolments being roughly 100 full time learners by end of 2011, and over 600 within four years - depending on the content of the Minister's announcement about 2011 Trade Academies.
As a final thought - eLibrary Week is coming up, beginning on August 16th. Reading is an important aspect of all of our lives, and definitely something that we encourage everyone to enjoy. Why not get into the spirit of eLibrary Week and read an eBook? I have picked out one of my favourites to re-read a few tales from to embrace eLibrary Week.
Naku noa
